Pathway to Discipleship

The Walnut Grove Methodist Pathway to Growing as a Disciple of Christ

At Walnut Grove, we strive to be intentional in growing as followers of Jesus.  For Walnut Grove, being a Christ follower is more than just attending worship on Sunday Morning.  As you will see below, our pathway of discipleship includes worship, learning, giving, serving and sharing our faith with others.

Worship  We worship every Sunday at 9:00 and 11:00 a.m. by gathering to sing, pray, listen for God’s word in scripture and consider what it means for us today.

  • Starting Point – Attend worship less than once a month
  • Next Steps – Attend worship 1 to 3 times per month
  • Going Deeper – Worship every week unless sick or out of town

Grow  We grow in love of God and neighbor by connecting with others in small groups and engaging in daily spiritual practices on our own.

  • Starting Point
Group / Class – Basic Christian belief
Individual – Occasional use of spiritual practices
  • Next Steps
Group / Class – Biblical Literacy
Individual – Regular use of spiritual practices
  • Going Deeper

Individual – Daily use of spiritual practices

Give  We give financially to invest in God’s ministry and mission and create an opportunity for God to work through us and our church.

  • Starting Point – Give in Sunday offering, Christmas Eve and Easter Offering
  • Next Steps – Make an annual commitment and give in proportion to your income
  • Going Deeper – Make an annual commitment and give in proportion to your income at a tithe (10%) and beyond

Serve We serve others in our congregation, Hardin County and beyond as part of God’s transformation of the world.

  • Starting Point – Occasional or once a month volunteer
  • Next Steps – Member of a committee or occasional service beyond the walls
  • Going Deeper – Leader of a committee or team or ongoing service beyond the walls

Share  We share our faith by inviting others to connect with God and sharing our experience of life as a follower of Jesus Christ.

  • Starting Point – Share your faith through invitation
  • Next Steps – Share your faith through personal testimony
  • Going Deeper – Regularly share your faith with others through invitation and witness
